Eco-efficient Use of Biomass for Bulk and Fine Chemicals Production

In this TA, innovative research shall be carried out at the interface between the existing disciplines of chemocatalysis, biocatalysis and thermal conversions. The emphasis is on the smart combining or integration of one or more synthesis steps, as equally the selective production of coexisting ‘petrochemical’ intermediaries from the most recalcitrant, and therefore also the least studied, biomass fractions (i.e. lignin, lignocellulose and hemicellulose).

Furthermore, in consultation with TA COAST, new analytical methods will be developed to obtain direct insights into the problem of impurities in the biomass. On top of this, new ways of making chemocatalytic and biocatalytic routes compatible shall be investigated, for example, by working on catalyst stability.
